Plant Wise is a 56-page self-educational, interactive booklet full of activities that make the process of introducing plant-based foods into everyday life inspiring and enjoyable.
Not only does Plant Wise guide users through the introduction of new foods into their daily lives, but it also breaks down the negative stigmas surrounding vegan and vegetarian cuisine (i.e. “its always bland,” “tofu is nothing more than the butt end of a joke,” “raw fruits and veggies forever”). The goal is to drive home the notion that eating plant-based is not an “all-or-nothing” ultimatum. Any swaps made from animal products to something plant-based does make a difference! Simple swaps are where it all begins.
In addition to the interactive booklet, Plant Wise also took shape as an installation within the Dorothy Uber Bryan gallery. The thought behind this new form and placement stemmed from the idea that activities and games improve learning retention more than “traditional worksheets.” The more interactive an education tool can be, the more effective it becomes.
The exhibit prompted viewers to draw their favorite plant-based food, answer a “yes” or “no” question with stickers, and write their answer to a question that allows the viewer space for some introspection into their own lives.
