In partnership with the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation (OSPF) and Be Present Ohio, To Be Me was launched during Pride Month as a mental health initiative created to support LGBTQIA+ youth, including those in the process of navigating their own gender identity or sexuality. The idea behind this campaign was to uplift the LGBTQA+ community and provide ways for them to share pride in their identities. Through social posts, digital story gif stickers, physical t-shirts and stickers at Columbus Pride, and more, we made this campaign’s presence known across various platforms for maximum outreach.
According to a 2024 survey conducted by the Trevor Project, 39% of LGBTQA+ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. By launching this initiative with sharability and storytelling in mind, we intended to generate hope and positive chatter within the community. The more exposure this campaign received, the higher the chance it had to reach someone who may not see or have access to the resources elsewhere.
During our second year running this Pride Month campaign, we launched an interactive map on the Be Present Ohio website featuring mental health resources across the state of Ohio. This comprehensive tool helps users find local LGBTQ+ resources, support centers, counseling services, drop-in locations, and community organizations committed to providing the care and help they need.
